The Black Veil Closed Indefinitely

An unsigned notice posted in three locations ends the club's memberships; the city can find no address to match it.

A notice posted about the city yesterday declares The Black Veil closed indefinitely by order of management. Memberships are suspended, the notice states, and any correspondence concerning the All Hallows’ Eve engagement will be returned unopened.

The notice is unsigned. This paper's examination finds the type does not match the club’s 1921 stationery, leaving open the question of who ordered it set and printed. A city clerk, asked to confirm the closure against the address given by investigators pursuing the masquerade inquiry, could locate no business under the name Black Veil at any Manchester address so offered.

Where the notice was posted has not been recorded by this paper's sources, beyond an assurance that it went up in three locations. Readers who have seen the notice, or who can identify the printer's type, are asked to communicate with the city desk.
