A Stranger of Means Comes to Manchester

Newly arrived and evidently well provided for, Miss Cassandra Castello hosts a lavish small company at an unnamed dining room, declining to name her partners in a new club called The Black Veil.

Miss Cassandra Castello, newly arrived in Manchester and said to want for nothing, received a small company Thursday evening at a private dining room whose location the invitations omitted. Guests remarked on the hostess's furs and on a diamond bar pin unfamiliar to the city's older families. The gathering included representatives of the cloth trade, the law, and the evening press.

Neither her people nor the source of her evident comfort could be traced by inquiries at the city directory office. The hostess, known to her friends as Cassie, declined to identify her partners in the enterprise. She allowed only that the rooms were called The Black Veil and that membership was a matter of introduction, not application.
